International Project Successes
In 2018, ABO Wind won a bid for five projects ready for construction in a tariff tender in Greece (see press release). The first of these solar parks will be connected to the grid in spring 2019 near the northern Greek city of Kossos. ABO Wind will also build its first solar park in Hungary in 2019. The developer is also working on solar projects in Spain, France, South Africa, Canada, Argentina, Colombia and other countries. In 2017, the company commissioned a park in Iran. However, project development in Iran has now been discontinued.
It can also be favorable to combine the use of wind and solar energy in one comprehensive system. Both energy resources are fluctuating, so they are not continuously available at any given time. But solar and wind energy complement each other well. Combined with small-scale energy storage systems, they can even supply isolated off-grid areas with energy. This is a compelling way to create an environmentally friendly, inexpensive and reliable energy supply even in remote and sparsely populated areas.
