Renewable Energies in Argentina
Argentina possesses major, largely unexploited potential in renewable primary energy sources such as solar and wind energy. Nevertheless, petroleum and natural gas represent the largest share of Argentinian primary energy generation. Renewable energies currently cover about two per cent of power demand. It is the goal of the government to raise the share to 20 percent by 2025, especially by expanding solar and wind energy capacity.
From 2016 to 2019, the Argentinean government has been awarding feed-in tariffs for renewable power plants with a capacity of 6.5 gigawatts and helped make wind and solar energy the cheapest non-subsidised energy sources in the country. After their commissioning, renewable energy will provide 18 percent of Argentina's total electricity supply.
In 2019, Argentina's installed wind energy capacity has more than doubled. A total of 931 megawatts were newly connected to the grid, compared with 445 megawatts in 2018. The country now has a total of 1,604 megawatts of wind energy capacity.
In Ernst & Young's Country Attractiveness Index for Renewable Energies for 2019, Argentina climbed to ninth place worldwide and first place in Latin America. For wind turbine manufacturer Vestas, the country also represented the third-largest global market in 2018.
ABO Wind AG – ABO Wind Energías Renovables S.A.
In 2006, ABO Wind founded the Argentinian subsidiary ABO Wind Energías Renovables based in the City of Buenos Aires. In recent years we have sold six ready-to-build-projects with a nominal capacity of 350 megawatts. The buyers of the projects have in part successfully participated in the tenders.
Participation in tender was successfull
In 2019 ABO Wind participated for the first time in an Argentinian tender and obtained tariffs for three smaller solar projects, each with 10 megawatts. ABO Wind seeks strategic partnerships with stakeholders.
