(Wiesbaden, July 8, 2021) ABO Wind is taking a holistic approach to address the climate crisis: the company is not only planning wind and solar farms in 16 countries but has also been active in the field of storage technology and future mobility for several years. Now the company has implemented a hybrid project on its own doorstep, consisting of a photovoltaic generator (80 kW), battery storage (50 kW/200 kWh) and charging infrastructure (300 kW).
At the company headquarters in Wiesbaden, ABO Wind covered the roofs of three buildings with photovoltaic modules and set up seven charging stations, each with two charging points for its own fleet. Employees can charge their electric vehicles with up to 22 kilowatts during working hours. Intelligent charging management ensures that the green electricity is used as directly as possible. A battery storage complements the system so that the grid connection does not have to be enlarged and to increase self-consumption. "This project for us is a show case for future green mobility concepts. We develop comparable but larger systems for our industrial customers," says Dr Julia Badeda, Head of Hybrid Energy Systems and Battery Storage. The in-house expert groups are covering beside the project development and implementation also the operation and maintenance of the system.
Multiple and additional benefits of battery storage systems are gaining importance in the industry. With a smart energy management system, they are not only part of the charging infrastructure, but can also secure the power supply and provide peak shaving. As a result, customers can save a large amount of grid fees. "For large consumers with more than ten gigawatt hours of annual consumption, a properly dimensioned storage system pays for itself after one to two years," adds Dr Patrik Fischer, General Manager at ABO Wind, responsible for hybrid energy systems and battery storage.
ABO Wind designs and implements hybrid energy systems for various needs: So-called micro grids are suitable for industrial customers, municipalities or island systems and can replace diesel generators, for example. In the context of future mobility and green supply, a team in Wiesbaden is also working on the design and implementation of hydrogen infrastructure.
