ABO Wind in Portugal
Although utilization of wind energy in Portugal has grown slowly over
the last few years, the forecast looks very good for the development of
wind energy in the future. This prediction is supported by the fact
that from a total of 1.560 megawatts of installed and ready-for-use
capacity by the end of 2005, 694 megawatts was installed in 2005 alone
and a further capacity of 1.065 megawatts is now under construction.
This means that in the near future more than 6 percent of electrical power needs
can be met by wind power.
Portugal has set its wind power targets for 2010 at a installed
capacity of 3,750 megawatts. The Portuguese government has asked for
tenders for an allocated 1,700 megawatts in Phase 1 and for a further
200 megawatts for Phase 2 of its energy plan.
