Wind energy in France

France possesses the second largest potential for wind energy in Europe.
In June of 2001, the French government passed a law which requires that power produced from wind energy must be fed into the main power supply. This legislation approaches the German laws in respect to renewable energy. The tariff was adjusted in July 2006.

In July 2006, the French National Assembly set ambitious goals within the framework of the PPI legislation (long-term program for investments). It is planned that by the year 2015, 17,000 megawatts of power will be generated through wind energy sources.
Given this, it is likely that France will become one of the largest growing markets for wind energy. top

The First Wind Farm in Eastern France
Notable for its quality and broad acceptance in the community, the project Téterchen is the first wind farm in the Lorraine Region.  The wind farm consists of six wind turbines with a hub-height of 85 meters and a rotor diameter of 77 meters. The total installed capacity of the installation is 9 megawatts. The wind farm has been fully operational since 2005, less than 3 years after the project had been initiated.

Excellent Perspectives
By the end of 2007, ABO Wind will have a total of 6 wind farms in operation with a total installed capacity of 40 megawatts. These sites are spread over the regions of Lorraine, Pays de la Loire, Brittany and lower Normandy.
The current project planning pipeline entails projects with a total capacity of about 200 megawatts. top
